Ye Olde Shoppe

Ockham Road South , East Horsley

This large elaborately decorated village shop was built by Lord Lovelace in 1862 to replace three cottages formerly at this location. One had served as the Conisbee’s butcher’s shop (now in ParkHorsley), one was a small grocer’s shop and the third a diary. Two couples originally worked in the Ye Olde Shoppe and lived up on the first floor.

This building offers a fine display of Lord Lovelace’s design style of flint and terracotta brick. It isextensively decorated with several large arches of dentils in moulded brickwork over groups ofwindows as well as an encircling string course of roses.

Ye Old Shoppe is a Grade II listed building. It has had various changes of use approved in the pastincluding use as a shop, an office and a residential house. Currently, the ground floor is used as a local fitness centre whilst the upstairs is a private residential flat.
