Rowbarns Grange

Green Dene , East Horsley

A much-extended Grade II-listed residential house with a 16th Century core.

This large Grade II listed property on Green Dene is thought to have started out as a barn within the farm that later became Rowbarns Manor and which still lies adjacent to this property.

The original core of Rowbarns Grange dates from the 16th Century with extensions made in the 18thCentury and again by Lord Lovelace in 1875, who converted it into two cottages and were later recombined to make one house. In 1891 it became the home of one of Lord Lovelace’s stepsons, Major Herbert Jenkins. A large barn was added to the house at the same time, which served as a billiard room and concert room for the village during the 1920's. It now serves as a garage.

Situated close to Green Dene highway this is probably the most visible of the various heritage buildings which are to be found nestling on the lower slopes of the North Downs in this part of East Horsley.
